Photo series shot in Milan for the new fragrance SWEET FEROCIOUS by Roberto Cavalli.
In our society balloons are often a reference for birthdays, a milestone for child who were brought into this world. Balloons represent those shared moments, made by emotions which became a part of my memories.
This series is a part of me with reference to people I have met who are close to me but also people or places which are unpleasant to me. I travel in footsteps of my past in France, Italy, Norway, Spain, USA. Each photo tells about a special day, moments filled with magic, unhappiness or just filled with the memory of someone. Events or meetings that took place several years ago or just few days ago. The past exists and develops itself every day.
The beauty of death. In this series we left a negative and sad image to do something radiant,
strange and by implication, beautiful. Witch the search for a balance between life and death through the symbolism of this moment. Work did in Artistic collaboration with Amandine Vignon.
I leave behind the streets of the capital and I find myself in a strange and quiet place where I float between dream and reality. I walk and sometimes the imprint of man reapers, the sign of human presence in the middle of nowhere. Today I continue to be fascinated at what I see, always in quest of these places that I interpret, the place that lives in me.
My Little America is an atmosphere, a whole world with its own characters... It’s a story, above all. Or actually, it’s many stories, merging, intertwining and echoing each other. Firstly, it’s the story of an era. It’s the 50’s, its deep rock culture and its numerous codes. For the gentlemen, it was the slick hairstyles, black leather jackets, rolled up jeans, open neck shirts, worn without a tie... For the ladies, the chiffon dresses, folded up jeans, t-shirts or short-sleeve shirts... and not forgetting the iconic cars! It’s a subculture with a strong desire to assert itself, to exist and live, characterized by two trends that meet and intersect: rock and hillbilly. Last but not least, cinema’s influence with James Dean, Marlon Brando and many others, spread aesthetics of incredibly perfect images, in which every detail has its meaning. It’s the story of the models, of course, impassioned and fascinating true Rockabillies, each with their own life stories... they accepted to put their thrust into Marc Thirouin’s expert lens and highly cinematic staging. Lastly, this inspired series originated from Marc Thirouin’s personal story. As a child, his mother would play Elvis Presley’s records to him... Marc got immersed quickly in this truly distinctive era, where music, fashion and cinema converge... and create, under a very rock edge, a form of touching romanticism. He later discovered that this world had come back to life in Norway. Like a revelation, he fell in love with the country and has spent half of his time in Oslo (Norway) for the past 12 years. He therefore pursued his immersion into the Rockabilly world, under the spell of its poetic charm, music, cars, elegance... and most of all, Rock & Roll.
“I view my work as an aesthetic report on Rock Culture; it fascinates me... and matters to be shared.”
I interpreted the series Icons into tableaus featuring faceless people in calm
and subdued settings. I emphasized one of the seven deadly sins, gluttony, in scenes depicting a lack of freedom, confinement, and the road one must follow to become an icon.
The bags over the models’ heads represent sarcophaguses. These women are dead and only exist as icons. A beautiful, well-dressed woman inhabiting beautiful places has lost her identity through the role prescribed to her. She does not speak. She has never questioned the things she has learned.
Will she ever be able to tear off the bag that holds her prisoner and denies her freedom?
To come out of the darkness and into the light?
Will she ever gain the freedom to think for herself, to compare, and to be confronted with ideas? Will she ever be able to put forth her own truth? Religion (not spirituality), social class, and politics put us into boxes. We all know people lacking of individuality, who are imprisoned in their sarcophaguses.

A half-lite hall, in the darkness, merely a few shadows…
Where are we, where are they ? Who are they ?
A light, a glimmer, a flickering ray behind a closed door… Where is that door ? Men. Women. They are here, facing themselves. Reflecting. Reflecting on what they are, what they were,
that they wanted to be and what they will be… This journey, like floating bliss, cruises through time. And present future, that has past… A well-known ride, that we have all experienced.
Amidst a biblical semi-darkness, they become aware of this eternal cycle. Time stops.
They are waiting. We are waiting with them. From darkness to light ? From light to darkness?
Where does the journey really begin? And if there is a beginning… Where does it end ? Is there such
a thing as an ending ? …the ending perhaps is just the beginning…
Are they trapped in this never-ending everlasting relentless constant loop, haunted by
their past, present, future…
